During these ongoing seasonal promotions, Amazon has observed 80% of new consumers come from Tier II and III cities. So far, the sales event, which runs from September 23 to October 23, has delivered orders to 99.6% of operable pin codes.
However, Amazon did not divulge the specific sales data.
“This Festive period, we are really honored to assist our consumers and empower vendors across the whole Bharat. Small and medium companies, startups, craftsmen, and women entrepreneurs provided a diverse range of items to our consumers from all over India,” said Manish Tiwary, Amazon India’s national manager of India consumer business.
While Amazon reported excellent consumer numbers during its holiday season sale, it also reported considerable growth among vendors. According to the e-commerce giant, local stores increased by double. Furthermore, it stated that over 4,000 retailers had a sales rise of more than 5X during the festive season.
Amazon estimates that 11 lakh vendors, including 2 lakh local retailers, participated in total. Amazon stated that, like buyers, more than 70% of merchants were from Tier II and beyond towns and cities.
“More than 35,000 merchants had their highest-ever single-day sales; over 650 sellers became crorepatis and 23,000 sellers became lakhpatis,” Amazon stated in a news release about the festive sale.
When it comes to individual product categories, Amazon claims that mobiles and accessories showed double-digit growth over last year’s sales. The e-commerce titan went on to say that the increase was five times that of business as usual.
A 5G smartphone has gotten more cheap in parallel with the country’s 5G launch, according to Amazon. “Over 10 lakh people purchased smartphones for the first time on Amazon; popular brands included Xiaomi, Samsung (M Series), Realme, iQOO, OnePlus, and Apple,” the e-commerce company noted.
Amazon also stated that over 15 lakh new customers visited and purchased from its fashion and cosmetics store, with more than 85% coming from Tier II towns and beyond. It boasts a 29% increase in its food and consumables sector compared to the previous year.
