Ecommerce giant Amazon, denied allegation of funding any organisation involved in religious conversion in North-eEastern India.
The Company responded after some tweets claimed that a part of customers’ payment at Amazon goes to in the name of donation to All India Mission, an organisation involved in Anti-India propaganda and evangelism of poor children.
National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) summoned Global Senior Vice President and Country Head, Amazon India over alleged funding by Amazon India to All India Mission, an org involved in “unlawful practices”. The Commission asks him to appear before it on Nov 1.
These allegations are all around Twitter for some time now. Meanwhile, TV Mohandas Pai, chairman of Aarin Capital called the news shocking and urge the government to intervene.
“Amazon India does not have any relationship with All India Mission or its affiliates nor does the AmazonSmile program operate on the Amazon India marketplace. Where the AmazonSmile program does operate, customers can choose to donate to a charity they prefer from multiple non-profits that register themselves under the program. The AmazonSmile program does not endorse the views of any charity participating in the program,” the company said in a statement.
However, this is not the first time when Amazon India has been accused of being wrongly involved pertaining to religious matters in the country. This year in August, a complaint was filed against the ecommerce firm in Bengaluru by the Hindu Janajagruthi Samithi related to a seller selling offensive caricatures of Hindu deities on Amazon platform.
In FY22, Amazon’s marketplace of division’s net loss decreased by 23% to INR 3,649.2 Cr in FY22 from INR 4,748.1 Cr in FY21. Also, Amazon Pay India’s loss has risen by almost 15% to INR 1,740.8 Cr in FY22.
