The domestically developed missile destroyer of India the INS Mormugao is all set to uplift the strength and power of the Indian Naval force with its commission on Sunday, 18th December 2022. The missile Destroyer warship is said to strengthen the nautical powers of the Country amidst China’s continuous trials on grabbing a vital part in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
The INS Mormugao missile Destroyer’s commission into the Indian navy is scheduled after two days, .on the 18th of this month at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai by the hands of the Union Defence Minister Mr Rajnath Singh.
About the missile Destroyer INS Mormugao
The INS Mormugao missile Destroyer is the Second among the four warships belonging to the class of the Vishakhapatnam Destroyers in the 15B project. The missile Destroyer is planned and sketched by the Warship Design Bureau of Indian Navy and the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited has built the Warship.
The missile warship got its name as INS Mormugao after the name of Goa’s Seaport city Mormugao situated in the Mormugao Taluka of the South Goa District. The Mormugao harbour has enlisted its name in the Indian history as it was used for by various rulers who ruled over the state from the ancient times including the Sultans of Bijapur, The Dutch, the Marathas and the Portuguese for the maritime trade.
Besides this, the warship took its first ever marine operational mission on the 19th of December last year, embarking the 60 glorious years of Goa’s Liberation from the Portuguese Rule. However, the Missile Destroyer was released in the year 2017.
Features of INS Mormugao
The INS Mormugao warship is said to be one of the greatest amongst the other warships constructed due to its manufacturing with the use of the steel with the medium strength and low alloy the DMR-249 A.
The Warship contains four gas turbines, in a combined gas and gas configuration. This particular system is used exclusively for the ships where the ship is propelled with the help of the two gas turbines which are attached to one single propeller shaft. This particular system allows the ships to attain a speed of higher than the thirty knots.
The missile warship also contains 75 percent of the indigenous substances related to the mission, various war equipment are being installed in the ships such as,
- Anti-Submarine Indigenous Rocket Launchers by Larsen & Turbo in Mumbai.
- Two Torpedo Tube launchers by Larsen &Turbo in Mumbai
- Super Rapid Gun Mount of 76 millimetres by
- Surface-to-Surface Missiles of medium range from BEL in Bengaluru
- BrahMos Surface-to-Surface Missiles from BrahMos Aerospace in New Delhi
The warship is equipped with the above features for the Missile Destroyer to fight in all three war conditions, the nuclear, biological and chemical war conditions.
